Kit
- a balloon
- wallpaper paste
- paint brush
- plain white paper (ordinary A4 paper is fine)
- tissue paper in different colours
- pens or paints to decorate
Instructions
- Mix some wallpaper paste (follow the instructions on the packet) in a dish.
- Inflate a balloon and balance it in a large bowl with the tied end downwards so you have a smooth surface facing upwards
- Tear strips of coloured tissue paper (it's important to tear the paper - don't cut it with scissors or the edges won't blend in), lay them on the balloon and gently brush paste over them. Make sure your strips overlap. Choose different patterns and colours.
- Paste on extra layers of coloured tissue paper for deeper colours, be careful not to tear or wrinkle the layers underneath.
- Then tear thin strips of plain white paper (about 2cm wide is good) and paste these over the tissue paper, again make sure they overlap. This will give your bowl some strength.
- Leave to dry in a safe place over night.
- Choose the colours you would like for the outside of your bowl, again tear off strips or pieces of tissue paper and paste them over the white paper so you have a colour/plain/colour sandwich.
- Leave to dry in a safe place over night.
- Once the bowl is dry you can pop the balloon!
- You can either leave your bowl just with the tissue paper colours, or you can decorate it.
